Code of Ethics.....
Both Day by Day Support Services and its service users are required to take personal responsibility and abide by the below ethical standards as set by the organisation. The purpose of these guidelines is for the protection of our service users. The ethical standards and guidelines set out below in points one to nine are based on the expectation that individuals are willing and able to engage in any of the aforementioned supports and can take personal responsibility for the use of peer to peer support, non crisis email support and crisis support.
- Service users should show respect, empathy and understanding to other service users with regard to both offering and seeking of support. This includes being mindful of the effects of comments, the nature of requests and acceptance of requests for support may have on other service users. Service Users are personally responsible for the contributions made and management of their time appropriately using our peer support. We also ask that service users refrain from posting on the peer support page comments / statuses which violate equal opportunities, are triggering, abusive, inappropriate or unhelpful to peer support. These comments will be removed and may result in the member being restricted to one to one support. Such a restriction will only happen if they do not comply with warnings from the admin / moderator team. Warnings will be communicated to the service user through inbox or email. If a service user feels unable to comply with that outlined above please refrain from using peer to peer support.
2.Service users must accept and respect the actions of moderators and administrators. Volunteer actions are lead by the ethos of Day by Day Support services Limited and the knowledge that service users are taking personal responsibility for their actions on the peer support page. Unhelpful comments which are directed at the service user or admin team will be removed. Any concerns/complaints can be sent by email to management firstname.lastname@example.org
3.Service users must be 100% honest with us.
a)Service users must only use one Facebook profile account on the peer to peer support page
b) The creation of fake profiles with the intent to deceive other service users is not permitted. Where such a profile is discovered, this profile may be reported to Facebook or other relevant parties. In addition support maybe restricted to one to one support.
4. Service users must be aware of their own limitations and put their own self-care as a priority over supporting other service users. If a service user feels unable to provide peer to peer support please refrain from using peer to peer support. Please also consider the effect of exposing yourself to topics or discussions which may be triggering and /or spending extended times on peer to peer reading/commenting on posts. Day by Day Services Ltd take no responsibility for any distress that may arise from the use of peer to peer support.
5.Service users must be aware of their safety online. It is strongly recommended that service users do not interact with other service users external to peer to peer support. This means accepting friend requests, exchanging inbox messages and sharing /posting of personal details and meeting.
6.Service users must not participate in peer to peer support if they are under the influence of drugs (excluding prescription medicine) or alcohol.
7.Service users must not participate in peer to peer support if they are actively self harming. We ask that service users put their own physical and emotional safety first by seeking medical assistance where needed.
8.Peer to Peer support is not a crisis service and is peer lead so you may not always get an immediate response. If you feel in immediate crisis please request support by going to www.olagola.org or seek help from our useful links which lists helpline numbers.
9. We understand that the peer support page is visited by users from across the world, people with varying levels of mental ill health, cultural belief’s , values, belief’s and sexual identity. We ask that service users treat others equally recognizing that levels of mental distress are perceived and owned by the individual.
